01 What is the source of the potatoes used for production in PPZ SA in Niechlów?

The potatoes used for production in PPZ SA in Niechlów come from domestic potato farmers and are obtained on the basis of cultivation contracts. The potatoes are purchased from farmers by qualified Company employees - Inspectors form the Raw Materials Department, who supervise the conclusion of cultivation contracts, the deliveries of seed potatoes, the subsequent growing of industrial potatoes and the schedule of potato deliveries to the plant.

02 Is there a requirement to prepare material safety data sheets for potato starch?

Potato starch is not classified as a “hazardous product”. Starch as a ''food product'' (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and the Council) is exempt both (pursuant to Article 1 Section 5 e) from registration  in the REACH system (Annex IV to Regulation No. 1907/2006 Article 2 Section 7 a) and the obligation to provide material safety data sheets for it: Article 31 of Regulation No. 1907/2006.

03 What is the difference between potato starch and potato flour?

Potato starch is a white powder insoluble in cold water. It is sometimes marketed under its common name: „Potato flour”. In fact, it is exactly the same substance, i.e. potato starch.

04 What requirements must farmers meet in order to become potato suppliers?

In order to become PPZ SA suppliers, farmers should contact the employees of the Raw Materials Department at PPZ SA in Niechlów and then:

  • sign a cultivation contract for the supply of starch potatoes,
  • grow potatoes on fields free from rot in compliance with the provisions of the cultivation contract,
  • supply potatoes of the quality specified in the cultivation contract in accordance with the schedule of deliveries.
